Behaviour Policy

Behaviour Policy

Aims

1.      to lead children towards self discipline

2.      to encourage respect for everyone

3.      to establish good relationships

4.      to promote a calm, orderly, hardworking atmosphere

5.      to uphold a set of school rules which are meaningful and for the benefit of the whole school

Part of the ethos of our school must be about respect and consideration for all its members.  Looking for the best in each other and thinking of other people and their feelings.

We feel that our policy must be a positive one where we encourage and look for behaviour worthy of praise.  To this end we have a system of rewards which include:

Positive comments to children about helpfulness, consideration, showing respect, co-operation etc.

A Praise Assembly where children are commended for behaviour as well as academic achievement.

A House Point system in KS2.

A Teacher's prize each year for someone who has been outstandingly well behaved and helpful.

We also have an open door policy towards parents in school and positive comments about their child's behaviour are frequently passed on.

Children who misbehave must also be dealt with in a positive manner.  Classroom management should be such that opportunities for misbehaving are minimised.  Teachers try to ensure that problems' are nipped in the bud and find a sense of humour a valuable asset.

As a Catholic school part of our own behaviour and teaching must be about forgiveness.  A new day a new beginning.  However, at times sanctions are necessary.  These take the form of

Missing playtime, sitting on the carpet outside the Headteacher's office.

Writing an apology.

Missing privileges  ( Year 6, suspension of prefect duties).

Being interviewed by the Headteacher.

Being put on report.

If a child's behaviour continues to give concern the parents are requested to come into school to see if they can help to resolve the matter.
