Health and Safety

Medicine

Ideally, parents should administer all medicines at home.

If children need to bring medicine into school, such as antibiotics, the medicine should be given to the class teacher to hand over to the person in charge of administering the medicine.  At present this is either Mrs Beasley or Mrs Horner.  All medicines administered will be recorded with the child's name, the type of medicine, the dosage and the date.

Children who have any kind of infection would be kept at home until the condition is cleared and no substances, such as eye cream, should be brought into school.

No child should carry their own tablets around (e.g. Paracetamol) as this could be dangerous for other children.

This does not change the policy on inhalers which should be easily accessible to children who need to use them.  Class teachers need to know which children need to have inhalers in school and will arrange where they will be kept during school times.

This is part of the school's Health and Safety Policy and is effective from January 1996.
