Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care of our children is the concern of each teacher with the Head and Deputy Head and Post Holders have additional responsibility.
If a child becomes ill in school and needs to go home either the parents or the person given as an emergency number is contacted.
If a child is showing signs of distress he/she will be given counselling and parents contacted if necessary. We need to know if there is likely to be distress caused by bereavement or any other reason so that we can keep an eye on the child. Sometimes this might involve a home visit by a member of staff.
In case of an accident, first aid will be administered at school by a suitably qualified adult unless the accident or asthma attack etc. is more serious when we would call an ambulance and also the parents or emergency contact number.
We need to know if your child has any allergies or medical conditions such as asthma so that we can be properly prepared.
Our School Chaplain is our Parish Priest, Father David McGough, who comes into school on a regular basis to take part in assemblies and class and school Masses.
We have strong links with the Parents and the Parish and our First Holy Communion Programme and Confirmation Programme are developed through these contacts. Children make their First Holy Communion at 8 years of age and are Confirmed at 11 years of age.
In our particular Parish situation there is a natural link between Parish, home and school. Through our PTA Committee and those parents who give their services readily in so many ways, we feel that we enjoy tremendous support which also helps for forge strong links. We endeavour to raise the awareness level of our children as regards living in a Multicultural Society. Educational visits and visitors to our school extend such awareness while the children are taken into the wider community e.g. to Senior Citizens Homes to entertain them. Contact with our Comprehensive Schools and Industry are encouraged, particularly in Year 6.
